Long time no see!
Fall term has started!
By the way, I had a wonderful summer vacation. As I said on this blog before, I was really looking forward to summer vacation because I had rarely had vacation in high school.
Frankly speaking, I didn't work very much on summer vacation, so I was scolded about that by my parents. But I thought "vacation is a vacation!" I could get many wonderful experiences instead of working time.
At first, I went to a festival to watch fireworks(Hanabi). I love fireworks. And in that day I wore yukata ,which I had bought the very day. My yukata is navy and on which, Milky way is drown. It's simple but very beautiful. The fireworks were very beautiful. And we had potatoes with butter and clashed ice there. Because I went to watch fireworks for the first time in four years and I didn't wear yukata long time, I was very glad. I love Japanese festival.
The next week, I went to Shikoku with my mother. It is my mother's hometown. We family used to go there on summer vacation, but we couldn't recent years. The last visit to Shikoku was when I was a junior high school student. I have many relatives because my mother has four sisters and a brother, and they each have some children, even two of my aunts have grandchildren. Every summer vacation they come to Shikoku and they all stay many days and visit many places. And there was a festival, in which there was not only food shop, but also various event, for example, "Rodeo of a pig" and "Human Caring." I think you are very surprised to read this. Perhaps almost everyone has never heard such an event. To be frank with you, I participated "Rodeo of a pig." Yeah, I rode on a pig, not a cow!! That was competition. If you can keep riding on the pig the longest time in challengers, you can get money, hundred thousand yen!! Actually, I participated that because I really wanted hundred thousand yen! Haha.
The result was not good. Actually, I couldn’t keep riding on the pig. The time I was riding is so short! But it was very difficult. The pigs don’t get used to being ridden and they struggle strongly to drop the rider. I was a bit sorry for riding on them. They seemed that they really didn’t like to be ridden on their back.
There was another event in the festival. It was “Fish catching.” There was a big pool full of water, and inside it, there were many fishes swimming.(various fishes were there)
The rule of the event was to catch fishes by hand. But it was no problem how many we caught them. I was made to participate in that by my relatives, they wanted fresh and big fishes very much. I tried it with my mother’s friend. To my surprise, she was very good at catching fishes! My rule was to hold bag inside which fish was stocked. Because the fishes is fresh and have power, to hold strongly in case they escaped from it. The woman who was my pair got two big hamati (young yellowtail) and four tai (bream). After that my grandmother and my aunts cooked the fishes into various plates. I loved sashimi!!
And that night, there were fireworks.
I think it was the most fantastic fireworks I ever saw in my life.
Because the festival was held on the harbor, fireworks were performed on the sea. We watched them sitting on the edge of the harbor. (just below our feet is there the surface of the sea!!!) The distance between us and fireworks was quite nearby!! The very big fireworks were fantastic, at the same time we could see their reflection on the surface of the sea. It was amazing.
I will never forget it!
After the festival, I often stayed in the house, where I talked with my grandmother. I hadn’t met her some years, so I was very glad to talk with her than usual. My grandmother in Shikoku is very powerful. To tell the truth, she once caught a thief by herself! And she likes to take care of people. She is a bit curt but actually very tender grandmother. I love her very much.
In Shikoku, I went Yosakoi festival in kouchi prefecture.
I belong to Yosakoi team whose name is `Odori zamurai’ (it means dancing samurai!)
Though I couldn’t participate in the festival, I went to see their dancing as an audience. It was enthusiastic! I got to feel like dancing with them.
I will write about ‘odori zamurai’ next blog.
Bye.
